The international conference delegates were especially inspired by the unique projects and bold steps to increase the capacity of rural schools, which were presented in the panel discussion “Playing on the same team: teachers, technology and rural communities”.

Innovations in rural education were comprehensively analyzed by the founder of Bilim Media Group Rauan Kenzhekhanuly, education expert Gabit Bekakhmetov, rector of the Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University Gulmira Kanai and director of the public foundation “Teach for Qazaqstan” Gulnara Salmenova.

Four years ago, based on the idea of creating a new model of a rural school, the activities of the Abay Kyzylzhar School in the village of Peterfeld in the South Kazakhstan region acquired a new look. Now the number of students at this school has increased, and the professional level of the teaching staff has increased.

– The formation of cultural life and intellectual level begins at school. Therefore, creating high-quality and accessible education for rural children should be the mission of each of us. This is how the project was born from Abai’s school,” said the founder of Bilim Media Group Rauan Kenzhekhanuly.

Director of the public foundation “Teach for Qazaqstan” Gulnara Salmenova spoke about a unique project that is being implemented to attract graduates of the best higher educational institutions to villages. Today, more than thirty young specialists who have passed a multi-stage selection are successfully working in ten rural schools. Maruf Fellows accelerator and founder of the consulting company Paradigm Shift Gabit Bekakhmetov noted the high level of creativity and critical thinking skills of rural children, and the rector of the Kazakh National Women's Pedagogical University Gulmira Kanai presented educational programs for dual specialization for regional small schools.

– I think that teachers in rural schools lack professional communication and exchange of experience due to the remoteness of their places of residence. In this direction, it is necessary to actively use Internet resources,” the speaker shared.

The conference speakers and participants agreed that we all need to join forces to improve rural schools.
