Implementation of the project "Capacity development of rural schools" in Kazakhstan

We continue to change rural schools! November 29, 2022 - a significant event took place in the rural school named after Kulyash Baiseitova village, Aktogay, Aktogay district, Karaganda region - Open Day, where the first results of the socially important program for the country “Capacity development of rural schools” (hereinafter referred to as the Project) are presented.
The project “Capacity development of rural schools” is a popular social program, where the partners are the team of the Foundation “Qazaqstan Halqyna” , the Aitas KZ Foundation for Sustainable Development of Education and the AEO "Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools".
It is important to note that this project is a logical continuation of the successful initiative of the Aitas KZ holding and the Intellectual Schools “Rural School powered by NIS”.
The main mission of the project is to comprehensively improve the quality of teaching in rural flagship schools, as well as create a positive and motivating educational environment for all participants in the school community.
The goal of the Project is to provide equal opportunities for rural schoolchildren to receive a quality education, and for teachers to improve their professional competencies. In the future, the support schools will become educational resource centers for all rural schools in the Karaganda region.
To create a modern educational environment, the educational material and technical base was completely updated in support school: 24 classrooms were equipped, modern workshops for additional education were installed, an Intellectum office, a STEM laboratory and an ART studio were opened.
STEM labs help the school get children of all ages interested in Science and Technology, with work areas that inspire students to expand their knowledge of Mathematics, Engineering, Technology and Science.
An ART studio is an opportunity for a child’s creative development, emotional release, and the opportunity for self-expression. This is a place of freedom where children develop not only their creativity and imagination, but also learn to realize their ideas, believe in their own strengths, and simply brings great pleasure to all participants in the process.
Scientific, methodological and expert support of all methodological support for teachers within the project is carried out directly by the project team of the AEO "Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools".
Teachers of the Nazarbayev Intellectual School of Karaganda conducted training internships for subject teachers and school administration. The whole process is accompanied by intensive methodological support - seminars, internships in all subjects in 2 languages, master classes and workshops are organized, digital and educational resources are introduced to make the lessons more effective.
The school's subject teachers completed workshops on developing students' functional literacy in 14 school subjects in 2 languages with the curriculum developers of AEO NIS.
NIS teachers have completely reformatted the work of the library: the school library now works as an additional educational platform for students and teachers of the school; on its basis, integrated lessons, educational activities, meetings with parents, seminars with colleagues from neighboring rural schools, and many others are conducted. This is a place for students to meet and get acquainted with famous personalities of the country, discuss the choice of further profession and career in the future.
Trainers of the Center of Excellence observed the lessons of teachers of the support school, provided feedback, and planned methodological support based on their difficulties. According to the CoE plan, advanced training courses, training workshops in all areas of teaching and teaching methods, and post-course support by coaches are provided. Daily consultations on the content of subjects and teaching techniques from trainers are provided on a systematic basis.
The project “Capacity development of rural schools” has become an open dialogue platform for launching systemic changes in the entire school community, is designed to provide a positive effect on the development of the secondary education system in the region and bring the region to higher positions in the educational ranking of the country, as well as contribute to the formation of professional school communities of teachers and rural school leaders.
Let us recall that on July 14, 2022, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Foundations “Qazaqstan Halqyna” and Sustainable Development of Education (FSDE), AEO "Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools", within the framework of which a grant in the amount of 4.25 billion tenge was allocated for charitable educational project “Capacity development of rural schools”.
