Hour of code in Kazakhstan

news
In December 2023, in 21 rural support schools of the charity project “Capacity development of rural schools” NIS teachers conducted the “Hour of Code in Kazakhstan” event as part of the international Computer Science Week. 1,324 schoolchildren took part in the global action from support schools.

It should be noted that the Hour of Code is a global movement involving several million students and learners from over 180 countries. The goal of the event is to introduce schoolchildren to programming in a simple and exciting way and to instill in them an interest in the exact sciences. The campaign is aimed at popularizing the study of computer science and programming, as well as increasing the prestige of IT professions, which are already among the most in demand today. During the “Hour of Code,” students mastered interactive simulators and became familiar with the basics of four-handed programming, and also took a practical lesson in artificial intelligence training.

Teachers of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools were involved in the event. The Hour of Code format involves special computer science lessons, where teachers tell children about what programmers do and together write the first lines of real code for many children. The resources provided on the website https://www.hourofcode.kz/ru.html were used as educational and information materials. These materials contributed to a deeper understanding of the topic and the practical application of knowledge in the field of programming and information technology.
