CELTA

             For professional development of Nazarbayev Intellectual schools teachers, as well as learning advanced teaching techniques and methods of teaching English as a foreign language, the AEO Department of Human Resources Management organized a PD training course. As a result, Nazarbayev Intellectual schools’ teachers were awarded with СELTA Certificate (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults).

             The training period was from 1st through 26th June 2015 in Oxford (Great Britain). Five NIS teachers from Uralsk, Aktobe, Karaganda, Pavlodar and Taldykorgan who had the highest score in IELTS (7,5-8,0) participated in the course.

             The main feature of CELTA communicative approach is the absence of intermediate language (a teacher does not use their native language during the lessons). Developed by the Examination Council of Cambridge University (Cambridge ESOL - English for Speakers of Other Languages) in 1970, now CELTA qualification is the most wide-spread and globally recognized qualification of an English teacher who teaches English as foreign language.

             By the end of the course teachers were able to:

- effectively apply their knowledge of English language in teaching;

- develop and create practical tasks based on CELTA methods;

- develop skills by applying communicative approach of teaching;

- assess, plan and conduct lessons, taking into account general knowledge, learning preferences and current needs of students;

- demonstrate linguistic knowledge and appropriate teaching strategies;

- demonstrate awareness of language skills and how they can be acquired;

- plan and conduct lessons aimed at developing General language competence of students;

- demonstrate an appropriate range of study-skills and professional awareness and responsibility.
