Nazarbayev Intellectual school of Chemistry and Biology in Ust-Kamenogorsk was founded on the initiative of the president within “20 intellectual schools” state programme framework and it started working on September, 13, 2010. Its purpose is to bring up a leader who strives for self-development and self-improvement and can be useful for Kazakhstan. According to its mission, the school is aimed at development of intellectual potential of the country, contribution to the welfare of the country and its competitiveness in the world.

In 2017 the school has been successfully accredited by Council of International Schools (the Netherlands). The certificate confirms that the school provides education at a high level.

126 teachers work at the school. There are researcher-teacher, 24 expert-teachers, 42 moderator-teachers, 38 teachers and 21 trainee-teachers. Some of them are involved in creation of course plans and textbooks. All of them attend professional development courses of a country and international level. 10 of them have already completed the courses and 2 are still studying on “Bolashak” programme. There are also teachers from the USA, Canada, New Zealand, Great Britain and other countries of the world.

 The school implements an integrated educational programme, created in cooperation with the Cambridge University. It harmoniously involves cultural identity and the best traditions of ethnical pedagogics, upbringing and education. Group work is combined with individual work in laboratories of biology, chemistry, nanotechnology, biotechnology or in the library. Students take part in social projects, attend elective courses, clubs where they reveal their creativity. Various sport clubs help them to be strong.

Along with science, languages are also important at the school. Students speak three and more languages. As a result, the average IELTS score of senior students is 6.02 out of 9.

Students achieved high results winning 595 international, 253 state and 658 regional Olympiads and research project contests. 77 students have “Altyn belgi”, 449 have grants, 361 are university students of technical, scientific and medical specialties. 116 students continue their studies at Nazarbayev University and 33 students study abroad.

Educational and upbringing process is done by school administration in collaboration with students, subject teachers, scientific council and parents. Comprehensive approach and taking into consideration of different opinions helps the school to develop.

Another significant event took place in the school`s life in 2017 – a new building with a dormitory block for 120 students was built for the school. Therefore, perspectives for nonresident students having “Orken” grant have recently appeared.
