From 22 May to 12 June, 2013 Center for Pedagogical Measurements under “Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools” AEO (hereinafter – CPM) is planning to conduct assessment of trainers and teachers on Level 2 courses of Professional Development Programme for comprehensive school teachers of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter – Courses) and the Qualifying exam (hereinafter – Exam) on 9 June, 2013 for teachers that have been taking the Courses from 11 March to 7 June, 2013 at the regional branches of the Centre of Excellence under “Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools” AEO (hereinafter – CoE) in Aktobe, Almaty, Oskemen cities.
3 certified experts are going to assess performance of 6 trainers and 119 teachers at the Courses. According to the Assessment Model standards experts are to take part at the adjusting workshop on Level 2 trainer and teacher assessment procedures on 20 and 21 May, 2013.
Teachers are taking the Course that is divided into 3 stages: two “face-to-face” phases and one online phase where teachers implement Course ideas in practice. Face-to-face phases, with 4 weeks length each, are held at CoE regional branches and practical phase lasts in their own schools 5 weeks where teachers conduct coaching and mentoring sessions for their colleagues to support continuous teacher professional development. The second face-to-face phase is devoted to understanding the restrictions of teachers’ own practice, to presentations of the results of implemented changes, and teachers will submit their portfolios to trainers for assessment. Experts will participate at this phase where their main tasks are realization of trainer mentoring functions, observation of teacher training and assessment processes, and organization of the Exam for teachers at the end of the Course.
By the end of the training on 9 June, 2013 teachers, who would have good results on presentations and portfolios, are going to take the Exam which evaluates of teachers’ knowledge of Programme key ideas and Modules. Experts’ main role during th Exam are the roles of independent external observers to provide transparency and credibility of this important event. Examination materials are to be delivered to the examination venue by DHL international postal service straightly by the beginning of the Exam. Answer sheets are to be submitted to DHL representatives by the end of the Exam for further delivery to the scoring center.
Teachers who successfully pass all the assessment stages (presentations, portfolios, the Exam) will obtain Level 2 teacher certificates that gives them an opportunity to get 70% pay-rise.
